Cornelis GALLE the Elder (Antwerp 1576 - 1650) "Ecce Homo" Original etching and graver signed in the lower right plate "C. Galle Sc. Et exc ”, from a subject by Antonio Allegri known as Correggio (Correggio 1489ca - March 1534). Beautiful copy printed with perfect inking on thin laid paper with "Foolscap" (Jester's Hat) filigree, attributable to Dutch paper production of the 17th century, trimmed to the impression of the plate, which is not visible in the lower part of the left side, with some small defects and tiny shortcomings always in the same area but overall in excellent condition. Uncommon sheet, absent from many of the consulted repertoires. Meyer considers it a copy in counterpart of that of Agostino Carracci dated 1587 in whose dedication the painting is part of the collection of the Prati di Parma family. After several changes of ownership long described by Pungileoni, today the magnificent oil on panel of 99 x 80cm painted around 1526 is found in the collections of the National Gallery in London. A specimen like ours is present in the collections of the British Museum in London. Bibliography: Meyer "Correggio" Leipzig 1871 page 477 No. 371.
